To understand how to repair air leakage in a pneumatic cylinder, first we need to know what its specific components are, the basic components and working principles of the cylinder:

Take the single-piston rod double-acting cylinder most commonly used in pneumatic systems as an example. The typical structure of the cylinder is shown in the figure below. It consists of cylinder barrel, piston, piston rod, front end cover, rear end cover and seals. The interior of the double-acting cylinder is divided into two chambers by the piston. A cavity with a piston rod is called a rod cavity, and a cavity without a piston rod is called a rodless cavity.


When compressed air is input from the rodless chamber, the rod chamber exhausts, and the force formed by the pressure difference between the two chambers of the cylinder acts on the piston to overcome the resistance load and push the piston to move, causing the piston rod to extend;when the rod chamber receives air, When the rodless cavity is exhausted, the piston rod is retracted. If the rod cavity and the rodless cavity alternately intake and exhaust air, the piston will achieve reciprocating linear motion. The working principle of the cylinder: Pressurized air moves the piston, and by changing the air intake direction, the moving direction of the piston rod is changed.








Judgment and maintenance techniques for common faults of pneumatic cylinders:

1. Good pneumatic cylinder:
Block the air hole tightly with your hand, and then pull the piston shaft with your hand. There will be a strong reverse force when pulling, and the piston will automatically spring back to its original position when you release it. Pull out the push rod and block the air hole again, and press the push rod with your hand. There is also a large reverse force when it is released, and the piston will automatically bounce back to its original position when it is released.

2. Bad pneumatic cylinder:
When pulling, there is no resistance or the force is very small. When releasing, the piston has no movement or moves weakly and slowly. When pulling out, there is a reverse force but it gradually decreases when pulling continuously. When pressing, there is no pressure or the pressure is very small. There is Stressful but less stressful.

3. Generally, magnetic switches are not easy to break, but in actual operation, we often encounter the phenomenon that the magnetic switch does not work and has no signal output. This is because the position and installation of the magnetic switch have changed, causing it to not sense the cylinder. The magnet in the magnet requires us to frequently check whether it is tight.

We do not recommend repairing pneumatic cylinders, but sometimes for emergency use, we recommend that you perform simple repairs on pneumatic cylinders that are leaking, not moving, moving slowly, or experiencing air leakage.

First, use circlip pliers to remove the circlip (screw) at the end of the cylinder, and take out the cylinder piston. There will be a rubber ring on the piston. Generally, the cylinder does not move, moves slowly, or has gas leakage because the rubber ring is worn too much. If it is caused, remove the rubber ring, and then install a new rubber ring. Finally, clean the cylinder body and ensure that the two air inlets are unobstructed. After everything is OK, rub a small amount of impurity-free butter on the inner wall of the cylinder and then Install the circlip at the end of the cylinder. After repair, the life of the cylinder can generally be extended by one to two years.

Equipment is about maintenance, not repair. If it is well maintained, there will be no repairs.

1. Take good care of your equipment, maintain and wipe it regularly, and keep it clean;
2. Do not overload the equipment or use the equipment in violation of regulations;
3. If a fault occurs, you must patiently troubleshoot it and do not use brute force or violence;
4. Delicate parts must be maintained carefully, and blunt or sharp objects must not be used to hit the poking equipment;
5. The wearing parts are fully prepared and the drawings are updated quickly, which can greatly shorten the maintenance time;
6. Observe the operating status of the equipment regularly to prevent equipment failures.
